The Honest Breakdown

I'll be straight about each of these, because if you're constipated enough to be reading comparison pages you deserve better than marketing. Metamucil is psyllium husk, and psyllium works: it adds bulk and it's cheap. The problems are the texture, which turns to gel in the glass, and the gas, which is considerable for a lot of people. Most people quit it within a month, and fiber you don't take doesn't work.

Benefiber is wheat dextrin. It dissolves properly and it's mild, which is a step up on Metamucil for usability. It's also only mildly prebiotic and it does nothing about a tense gut. Good for gentle top-up fiber; not enough on its own for chronic constipation.

MiraLAX isn't fiber at all. It's polyethylene glycol, an osmotic laxative that pulls water into the colon. It works, sometimes with urgency, and it does nothing for gut bacteria. Fine for a short stretch; not something to be on every day for a year, though plenty of people are.

Why Four Prebiotic Fibers Outperform One Bulk Fiber

Your colon holds hundreds of bacterial species, and they don't all eat the same thing. A single-fiber supplement feeds a narrow slice of them. Four fibers with different fermentation profiles feed a much broader range, and produce gas more gradually while they're at it.

Then there's the magnesium, which none of the three shelf products include, and which addresses the tense-gut problem that bulk fiber can actually make worse. That's the gap Peak BioBoost is built around.

What About Prescription Constipation Medications?

Prescription options (linaclotide, lubiprostone, prucalopride) exist for severe chronic constipation that hasn't responded to anything else, and they work, at a cost, with side effects, and under a doctor's care. If you're at that point, that's the conversation to have. Peak BioBoost sits well below that: more thorough than a pharmacy fiber, nowhere near a drug.

So it occupies a middle ground: four prebiotic fibers plus magnesium, covering more ground than Metamucil or Benefiber, without the urgency of MiraLAX or the prescription pad.

The Flavorless Advantage

This gets its own section because it's the reason the product works when the others don't, and it has nothing to do with biology. Psyllium gels. Wheat dextrin is fine but it's still a glass of fiber water. People stop.

Peak BioBoost goes into your coffee and disappears. Nothing to drink, nothing to endure. That's why people are still on it in month six, and month six is when fiber has actually changed your gut.

Can You Combine Peak BioBoost with Other Products?

Plenty of people take it alongside a probiotic, a greens powder or a multivitamin, and prebiotic fiber pairs naturally with a probiotic since it feeds what the probiotic adds.

The one caution is medication. Fiber can slow the absorption of some drugs, so take medication an hour before or two hours after your scoop, and ask your pharmacist if you're on anything time-sensitive like thyroid medication.

The Bottom Line on Fiber Supplement Comparisons

Each of these has a place. Metamucil if you want cheap bulk and can stomach it. Benefiber for mild, tasteless top-up. MiraLAX for a short-term fix. Peak BioBoost if you want something you'll take every day that works on the bacteria and the muscle as well as the bulk.

The Four-Mechanism Difference

Constipation usually comes down to four things: underfed bacteria, dry stool, slow transit, tense gut wall. Metamucil addresses one. Benefiber, one and a half. MiraLAX, one. Peak BioBoost is the only one of the four built to cover all four.

Cost Per Mechanism

On price, Metamucil is about $15 a month, Benefiber about $12, and Peak BioBoost about $30 on the 6-jar deal. You pay double for a product that does four jobs instead of one and that you'll actually keep taking. Whether that's worth it depends on how much your mornings are costing you now.
